Was used as the courtroom of Keraton, located at the centre of Kemandungan Lor area.

The Sasana Hinggil Bangsal was restored in the era of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VIII in 1956, celebrating the Keraton Yogyakarta in 200 years.

1. Kemagangan Bangsal

 

Kemagangan is the south yard of the main parts of Keraton, there is a building of Kemagangan Bangsal.

 

  • Area Fact: In order to worship the area, people are encouraged not to ride their two-wheeled motorcycle, or bicycle. Instead, they are allowed to push their vehicles.

4. Brojonolo Gate

 

The gate is the connector of the area of Sithinggil Lor (North Sithinggil) with the area of Kemandungan Lor (North Kemandungan).

1. Pagelaran Bangsal

It was initially called Tratag Rambag. Using wood shingles as the material for the roof. During the era of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono VIII in 1921, major restorations were made for Keraton Yogyakarta including this part. The named changed to Pagelaran (stage) since the restoration.

2. Sithinggil

 

 

Sitihinggil (Tanah tinggi) was previously a hillside. The Kori ward, found on the east wing functions as a station for the officers that secure the Keraton, the ward located on the west wing functions as the town hall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sithinggil Bangsal

 

This area is used for daily “pasowanan” rituals and also the place where the sultan is crowned. President Soekarno was sworn in as president here. On top of the ward is written ‘Sampeyan Dalem Ingkang Sinuwun Kanjeng Sultan Hamengkubuwono Ingkak Jumeneng Kaping Wolu’. On the Candra Sengkala inscription can be found “Pandita Cakra Naga Wani’ (7-5-8-1) indicating the year 1857. Symbols of a dragon called “Hardo Walko” represents as the protector of the people. You can find the Surya Sengkala decorated with ornaments of bees, hands, flowers and leaves. On it is the inscription “Gono Asto Kembang Loto’ (6-2-9-1) which symbolizes its restoration in 1926. 

 

 

 

3. Manguntur Tangkil Bangsal & Witana Bangsal

 

This is a distinct throne for the sultan as and also portrayed as a heirloom during the crowning of the sultan.

2. Srimanganti Gate

 

The Srimanganti gate is the connening gate between the Kemandungan Lor area and the area of both Srimanganti Bangsal and Trajumas Bangsal, located in the south side of Ponconiti Bangsal.

This bangsal was used as the welcoming area, for Sultan to greet his special visitors and guests. 

  • The Philosophy: symbolizes where the sultan waits. The sultan is a entity who is believed to came from the realm of eternity, which illustrates that once people die, their souls will have to wait to be called upon the creator. 

2. Trajumas Bangsal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trajumas Bangsal (1756) was used as an area for the Midodareni ceremony. Now it’s used to store the gamelan used for Skaten. A red chair and a palanquin can be found here. It was used as a vehicle for Sultan Hamengkubuwono I’s commute to the mosque. Part of it was destroyed in the 2006 earthquake and have been restored. A small monument which was a gift given from the Chinese government to Sultan Hamengkubuwono I, can be found in this room. A ceremonial bed and a lodgement to store old wood remnants from offerings are also placed here.

 

  • The Philosophy: illustrates the sultan’s justice towards his people and his family. Traju: scale. mas: justice 

3. Danapratapa Gate

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Symbolizes that the Sultan should give more than he receives. Danapratapa is the main entrance of the Kraton. It remained as it was since it’s construction by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I. It was later renovated during Sultan Hamengkubuwono 8th’s rule. Sultan Hamengkubuwono 8th spent most of the royal family’s money on the Keraton, so the Dutch East Indies could not ask for more money.

1. Gedhong Kuning/ Jene (The Yellow Building)

 

It was built during the reign of Sultan Hamengkubuwono II and used as the sultan’s private residence until Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. It’s now used as the private office of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

2. Kencana Bangsal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kencana Bangsal is the main building of the Keraton Yogyakarta, which was used as the throne for Sultans. This building is also used as the place for big ceremonies and rituals. 

 

 

 

3. Prabayeksa Bangsal

 

This ward stores the Keratons heritage firearms. Also found in the area is a lantern called “Kyai Wiji” that is guarded by the abdi dalem to make sure it’s always lit.

4. Manis Bangsal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The function of this bangsal is to entertain and serve the Sultan's royal family and his guest of honor 

5. Mandalasana Bangsal

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was used as the place for the Keraton's royal musicians to entertain Sultan's guest of honor.

6. Gedhong Gangsa 

 

The building to store the gamelans of Keraton Yogyakarta. 

7. Ksatriyan

 

The place for the son(s) of Sultan to stay

8. Gedhong Kaca (Museum HB IX)

 

Gedhong Kaca is a new building that was constructed recently in order to remember the achievements and contributions of the Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. It is a museum which is specially store the important objects of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. 

9. Keputren

 

Is the area for the daughters of Sultan. The area is restricted for public and only girls/ women that could enter it.

10. Kemagangan Gate

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Is the gate that connects between the area of Kencana Bangsal and the area of Kemagangan. 

2. Gadungmlati Gate

 

Is the gate that connects the area of Kemagangan with Kemandungan Kidul (the South Kemandungan) area.

This gate connects the area of of Kemandungan Kidul (the south Kemandungan) with the area of South Sithinggil.
